Students Inspired at Hopwood Hall Further Education Awards

On 14th June 2017 we attended the Hopwood Hall Further Education awards at the Middleton Arena, LCpl Joel Haliwell VC Way, Middleton, M24 1AG. The annual event was attended by over 500 guests including students, college staff, governors, local organisations, councillors and Liz McInnes MP for Heywood and Middleton. The event was organised by the Hopwood Hall College staff team with support from Link for life.
The event kicked off with a welcome from Director Matthew Taylor and Vice Principal Julia Heap who led the evening and a brief overview of the event. Followed by this was an inspiring speech from Guest Speaker Eric Bishyika an award winning 21 year-old-entrepreneur from Oldham who at 13 years set up a clothing business using money saved up from a paper round.


Eric’s presentation was well received by the students who’s confidence was further boosted by see what was achievable through dedication and commitment.

Eric also said: “It was great be part of the Hopwood Hall Further Education Awards 2018 and to be the guest speaker was a an honour as I got to meet so many outstanding students who had achieved so much already which also inspired me. The staff team at Hopwood Hall College did an outstanding job organising the event and recognising the achievements of the students, I’m looking forward to working with them again in the future.”

Over 100 additional awards were presented for best progress and achievement across the following subjects: accounting, business, travel & tourism, ICT, arts and performing arts, creative media, hair & beauty, hospitality & catering, early years, health & social care, access, adult numeracy & literacy, English & maths, ESOL, skills for life, animal management, horticulture, science, sport, uniformed public services, engineering, construction, motor vehicle and apprenticeships.

Principal O'Toole said: "It is an honour to celebrate the success and achievements of all our learners. We presented more than 100 awards to students who were nominated by their tutors for their hard work and dedication."
Mr Taylor agreed, adding: "Once again, we have had some superb nominations."
