After being shortlisted as a finalist for the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the 2nd year in a row in March were please to one of the chose few among some well established and successful businesses in Oldham.

On Friday 11th May 2018 the long anticipated 10th Year Anniversary of the Oldham Business Awards finally arrived. The event too place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, West Street OL1 1UT, there were around 600 guests in attendance of the sold out event and with comedian Rory Bremner as the host. The main sponsors of the event were Ryder & Dutton estate agents based in Oldham along with other sponsors such as Oldham Enterprise Trust, Oldham College, Seftons & Co, Pearsons Legal and many more. It was great to see so many Oldham Businesses in one room to come and celebrate the achievements of our town.

Steve Kilroy, OBA steering committee chair, said: "You don't realise just how diverse the Oldham business community is until nights like this. It's fantastic.

"Businesses in Oldham continue to go from strength to strength, and that's not just throughout the UK, it's worldwide too.

The event kicked off with a few announcements from the compere then Rory Bremner came on and had the audience in stitches with his hilarious impressions of political leaders and celebrities.

Followed by that were the first awards categories which were:

Supporting Young People , Young Business of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the year.

Channings Childcare triumphed in the 'Supporting Young People' category.

Owner of the business Kathryn Hoggard - Channings runs six nurseries based in and around the Oldham area - told the Chronicle: "We deliberately entered this category because my managers do so much with the younger members of staff.

On a glittering night, the 'Young Business of the Year' award went to Dream Big Sports a business based in Oldham offering sports activities to schools through out the borough.

YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

After the first two awards were done, our category was next. The Young Entrepreneur sponsored by Oldham Enterprise Trust, the finalists for this award were:

Jannatul Choudhury of Muzzini

Our nomination video (Above) was played on the large screen and then our names were called out so that we could go to the stage for the announcement of the Winner. Dave Benstead HR Director at Diodes and Chairman of the Oldham Enterprise Trust presented the award. The finalists were all on stage photos has been taken it was time to open the golden envelop to see who was the winner.

The look on my face in the slideshow above said it all, I was completly shocked that we had won it again! A mixure of emotions overcame me but the excitement and celebrations had only just begun. This a proud moment for us to represent this category and what it means to be recognised for the work we do for our people and Oldham.

It’s been an incredible 8 year journey since I started with an art class at 13years old. Although it’s not been easy I wouldn’t change a thing as it's made me into the person I am today. From delivering newspapers in the rain, hail & snow...to featuring on the BBC NEWS, Channel 4 & MEN. This is still the very beginning of our journey and we'd like to have you on board with us too.

I dedicate this award to my parents, family and those who have supported us throughout our journey. Without your encouragement, inspiration and belief we wouldn’t be here today. Winners of Young Entrepreneur of the year 2017 & 2018!
